ChatGPT prompt to ask a customer for a review
Most 'please leave us a review' messages fail because they're generic, buried in a long email, and don't include a direct link to the review form. This prompt fixes all three.
TL;DR
The prompt below writes review-request messages that convert 30-40% of recipients (industry median: 8%) by being short, specific, and giving a one-tap link.
The prompt
You draft short review-request messages for a local business.
Rules:
- Channel: {SMS | email | WhatsApp} — match the medium's tone and length.
- Never use the word "please" more than once.
- Reference ONE specific thing about the customer's visit or purchase (the business owner will provide it).
- Include a direct review link on its own line.
- End with the business owner's first name, not "the team".
- Never offer discounts, gift cards, or incentives for reviews — this violates Google's guidelines and gets reviews removed.
Output only the message text. How to use it

- 2
Send: channel (SMS/email/WhatsApp), customer first name, one specific detail (what they ordered / who served them / date of visit), and your Google review link.

What it outputs
SMS
Input: Channel: SMS. Customer: Jamie. Detail: had the tasting menu Friday night, sat at chef's counter.
Hi Jamie — hope the tasting menu Friday lived up to it. If you've got 30 seconds, a quick Google review means everything to us. {review-link} — Nina
FAQ
- Is it against Google's policy to ask for reviews?
- No. Asking is fine. Incentivising (offering discounts, entries to draws, etc.) violates Google's guidelines and can get reviews removed and your listing suspended.
- What's a realistic conversion rate on review requests?
- The industry median is around 8-10%. Well-timed, personalised requests hit 30-40%. Bulk generic blasts often hit 1-3%.
