Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile is the free listing that controls how a business appears in Google Search, Maps, and the local pack, including its reviews and replies.

Reviews and replies both live inside the profile, and the reply text is indexed. That is the practical reason Google replies deserve more drafting care than replies elsewhere: the first sentence can surface in a snippet.

Profile completeness, category accuracy, and review signals all feed local ranking, which Google describes in terms of relevance, distance, and prominence.

In practice

Treat the profile as a live page rather than a listing: reply to every review, keep categories and hours accurate, and post updates rather than leaving it static.

Common questions

Do Google review replies affect ranking?
Google states that responding to reviews indicates an actively managed profile. The reply text is also indexed, which gives it an indirect but real effect on what a searcher sees.
