Review schema

Review schema is structured data markup that tells search engines a page contains a review or an aggregate rating.

Google's rich-results guidelines restrict where review snippets can appear and specifically exclude self-serving reviews about a business on its own site from generating star snippets.

Correctly implemented Product, LocalBusiness, or Organization markup with genuine third-party review data can still surface ratings in results, but the eligibility rules change frequently.

In practice

Mark up genuine reviews with the entity they actually describe. Do not add AggregateRating to your own homepage from your own testimonials page — it is the most common cause of a manual action in this area.

Common questions

Will review schema give me stars in search?
Sometimes, and only where Google's guidelines allow it for that entity type. Self-serving reviews are explicitly excluded.
