Service recovery

Service recovery is the process of turning a failed customer experience into a retained relationship through acknowledgement, explanation, and a concrete fix.

The research literature on the service-recovery paradox is mixed on whether a well-handled failure produces higher loyalty than no failure at all, but it is consistent that a poor recovery is significantly worse than the original failure.

In a public review, recovery has two audiences: the reviewer, who may amend, and every future customer, who is scoring how you behave under criticism.

In practice

Acknowledge the specific thing, name what changed as a result, and offer one concrete route to resolution. Skip the apology paragraph — it reads as filler.

Common questions

Should I offer a refund in a public reply?
Offer a route to resolution publicly and settle the detail privately. Public compensation offers invite copycats and breach several platforms' policies.
