5-star reply templates

How to reply to a 5-star Google review (12 templates)

5-star reviews are the ones owners under-reply to and over-templatise when they do. The fix is boring and works: use the name, quote a specific detail, drop the marketing voice. Every reply below is short by design.

The 3-line framework

  1. Use their first name.
  2. Reference a specific detail they mentioned — a dish, a stylist, a repair, a room.
  3. Sign with a real name from the business.

Never do this

  • Never open with "Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review". It's the phrase every automated reply uses.
  • Never end with a marketing tagline.
  • Never leave a 5-star review unreplied — reply-rate is the local signal, and skipping the good ones tanks it.

FAQ

Is it worth replying to every 5-star review?
Yes. Google's Search Liaison has repeatedly said reply-rate consistency across all star ratings is a local ranking signal. Skipping the good ones is the fastest way to look automated.
How short can a 5-star reply be?
Two sentences is fine. "Thanks Sam — glad the kitchen landed. Ask for Marco next time." beats a five-line paragraph.
Should I use AI to write 5-star replies?
As a starting point, yes. As a final draft, no — the reviewer's name and one specific detail from the review are the two things AI gets generic on, and they're the only two things future readers notice.
